Millicent Scarlett’s soprano voice has been described by the press as “powerful and juicy”.  Ms. Scarlett has been seen on concert stages throughout Canada and the United States performing repertoire spanning various genres from opera, oratorio, musical theatre, and jazz.  She currently is an Adjunct Voice Professor and Facilitator at George Washington University’s Corcoran School of Arts and Design, and Voice Teacher at the Boston University Tanglewood Summer Institute. She had worked for several years as a Voice teacher at the Washington Opera Summer Institute and was a Visiting Professor at Shenandoah University. She is also the Music Director at University United Methodist Church in College Park, Maryland. 

A frequent performer, Ms. Scarlett continues to share her sublime and suggestive voice in both the classical and musical theatre genres. Highlights include working with Opera Lafayette in preview showings of the new opera Morgaine by Edmond Dédé at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC; “19” The Musical, World Premiere at the Women’s National Museum of Art in Washington DC in the role of Ida. B. Wells; Audiobook Version of 19 the Musical was recorded in Washington, DC and was released in the Spring of 2024 on Audible. 

Other notable performance includes Orchestral and Concert highlights with Columbia Orchestra in Sky’s the Limit; Strauss’ Last Four Songs and Beethoven Ninth with the NIH Philharmonic; Messiah Sing A Long at the Kennedy Center; Veterans Day Concert and God’s Gonna Trouble the Waters with the President’s Own Marine Chamber Orchestra; A Heart in the Hiding by Gwyneth Walker and Verdi Requiem with the Choral Arts Society of Washington at The National Cathedral; Solo Recitals In Plain Sight, the Art Songs of African American Woman Composers in Winnipeg Manitoba; Jubilate Hunt Country Music Festival in Middleburg, VA, Black Arts Fest at Folger Shakespeare Library and The Arts Club of Washington; Lift Every Voice and Sing in Florida. 

Ms. Scarlett is an Artist in Residence with the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company based in Washington DC and has appeared in several of their performances. A Tribute to Marian Anderson and Surroundings: A Tribute to Maya Lin at The National Portrait Gallery; A Tribute to Marian Anderson, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater; 30th Anniversary Celebration, and 10,000 Dreams at the Kennedy Center and performances at The Arts Club of Washington and Hillwood Estate, Museum and Garden. 

 She is the winner of many awards, most notably The Luciano Pavarotti International Competition, and National Semi-Finalist at the Metropolitan Opera. She holds a MM in Opera from University of Maryland, B.Mus. from Brandon University (silver medal recipient). Ms. Scarlett is a member of the National Association of Teachers in Singing and is a sought-after adjudicator and masterclass presenter within the District of Washington, Maryland, and Virginia area.
